Hurricane Beryl Press Release 7/12/24 4:00 p.m.

****For Immediate Release*****

Hurricane Beryl Power Outage Beginning July 8, 2024

MidSouth Electric Cooperative – Navasota, TX – July 12, 2024 – 4:00 P.M.

We are pleased to report that power has been restored to the MidSouth service area following Hurricane Beryl’s movement through our territory Monday morning. Clean-up work and repair to isolated outages which could occur will continue for at least several days and certainly for as long as takes to complete the work.

Hurricane Beryl was a test to systems we have in place, and work we perform all year to be prepared for this type of scenario. Broken pole count was minimal due to robust construction standards. The majority of fallen trees that caused line damage originated from outside of MidSouth managed right-of-ways.

Planning for our response to Beryl began months prior to landfall and was refined the week prior to the eye of Hurricane Beryl passing directly through MidSouth Electric Cooperative’s service territory. Material levels were verified and stock-piled, contractor crews and mutual aid crews were secured, reserve fuel was ordered, and operations crews were put on notice, per our storm restoration plan.

By July 5, electric crews and vegetation management crews were staged outside our service territory waiting for the storm to pass. As Beryl receded from Montgomery County, assets and people were strategically mobilized to begin the restoration process working throughout the service area.

MidSouth is proactive in system maintenance activities year-round. We have invested in the highest of technological advances to monitor and direct the flow of power on our grid and we strive to maintain vegetation along our right-of-ways with intensity. In addition, our employees train and plan with a team-work approach throughout the year for situations just as this.

Safety, efficiency and effectiveness are always our goals and part of the MidSouth culture. As we evaluate our performance in the coming days and weeks, we will fine tune elements of our response plan.

MidSouth wants to express gratitude to those fellow cooperatives, contract crews and materials suppliers which came to our aid in full force.
