2019 KBTX Food for Families Food Drive

Wednesday, December 4th we watched the community come together to help their neighbors. The 2019 KBTX Food for Families Food Drive kicked off in the early morning hours with hopeful hearts and chilly temperatures…Hopeful that we would be able to provide relief to families in the area this holiday season. Local schools, businesses, and individuals alike brought in both monetary donations and canned goods to the MidSouth Electric Co-op headquarters in Navasota and the Kimbro Center in Madisonville. The food drive was an opportunity to make a donation that will stay and benefit someone locally. From 4-H groups, to Firemen, to Girl Scouts the volunteers helped out from 6:00 am until 7:00 pm collecting and sorting the donated items to be delivered to the local food banks.

In total, the Grimes County locations collected over $9,100 and 11,600 lbs of food. The Madison County location collected over $4,250 and 9,800 lbs of food. MidSouth Electric Cooperative is responsible for organizing the logistics of these satellite locations and helps to market the event in the communities. The KBTX Food for Families Food Drive currently takes place in 6 different counties, and hopes to continue “To eliminate hunger by the distribution of food and grocery products through a network of nonprofit organizations while providing education and community awareness on issues of hunger.”

We want to thank the fine folks of Grimes and Madison County for supporting the local food pantries and we look forward to 2020!
