Arctic Blast Update 2/18/21

3:00 pm 2/18/21

After a historic, bone-chilling winter event, we are looking forward to warmer temperatures. No rolling outages are being conducted in MidSouth territory at this time. However, things could change at any moment if the electric system becomes strained by demand and Midcontinent Independent System Operator, Inc. (MISO) or Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) ask us to resume temporary load reduction procedures. These rotating outages are an important defense to protect the electric grid. If the grid becomes overloaded, we could experience a catastrophic event that would leave millions without power for days.

ERCOT is still under a EEA3 event. We are asking every member of the cooperative to do their part and conserve energy as much as possible until the state’s generation operations are fully functional again. If you are able, please keep your thermostat at or below 68 degrees fahrenheit, unplug unnecessary electronics and avoid using large appliances like your stove, washer, dryer and dishwasher. This is especially important during the evening and early morning hours when your home is working its hardest to maintain heat. You can keep up with the power supply status by downloading the ERCOT app

This week has been tough but our members have fared better than many others still without power across the state. Our thoughts are with these individuals and families during this time. By conducting rotating outages, MidSouth has been able to provide members with some form of electricity since the storm made its way into our territory Sunday evening. We know this hasn’t been ideal and at times it has been frustrating. Thank you for hanging in there with us. We will continue to get through this together.

With rolling outages still being a possibility, we are asking you to continue reporting your outage if it lasts over 45 minutes by texting OUTAGE to 352-667. If you are having difficulty submitting your outage by text, confirm your account information by logging into our online portal at www.MidSouthElectric.com or call our automated phone system at 936-825-5100. You can also use our outage map to help determine if your outage was caused by a weather-related incident.
